Need help setting goals?
When setting goals, there is more to it than you might expect. Of course, you could simply say, "This is what I am going to do," and do it, but unfortunately, not all of us are wired that way. Keep reading if you need insight and help when setting and achieving your goals.
First, let's start with the result you want to see. Think about things like, "Is this something I really want?" "Does this result align with my values and life goals?" "Is this important enough to dedicate time to?" If you answer yes to these questions, then chances are you are on the right path to your desired result.
Now for the goals! A useful acronym when starting to think about your goals is SMART. SMART stands for;
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Time bound
When using the SMART method for creating goals, you can better track your progress, stay on top of things, stay focused, get things done promptly, and achieve and make progress!
When setting out your goals, try writing them down; this makes them feel more real and gives you something tangible to refer back to. Write them down with a tone of optimism, or even if you have already achieved it, if you want to manifest. Write down your plan of action. This plan should include your end goal as well as all the steps you plan to take to get there. Using bright colours and a creative approach is beneficial as it unlocks more of your brain! The more brain, the better!
Next, you want to create a timeline, a REALISTIC timeline. Not only will this help you keep on track, but it also helps you visualise your goals and motivates you more. A sense of urgency also comes when a timeline is created; thus, there is a much better chance of you accomplishing your goals sooner. Your timeline and plan of action should exist together, and make a habit of ticking off a step when it is completed. Nothing is more motivating than a sense of accomplishment, so celebrate the small wins. Each step you complete should lead you directly to the next.
Don't be afraid to reevaluate and assess your progress. If something isn't working, that's okay! Figure out a solution or change it up and keep it moving. Weekly evaluation is good, as you can measure your progress and refer back to your action plan. If weekly seems too often for your goals, that's fine. Figure out a schedule that works for you.
